Board of Directors Meeting
Meeting was called to order at 6:32 pm at the Tuscarora Twp Hall – Indian River. Members present were Tony Naylor, Herm Boatin, Deb Chapman, Duane Engstrom, Gray Fischer, Marty Jones, Sandie Lawson, Jill Lynch, Donna Perla and Darrell Schwalm Absent board members was Mary O’Hare.
Motion to approve the Minutes of the September Board Meeting by Sandie Lawson supported by Darrell Schwalm, motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report – Gray reported there us not much to note except $2000 in contributions since our September board meeting. Motion to approve the Treasurers report was made by Herm Boatin and supported by Darrell Schwalm, motion carried.
Standing Committee Report
Board Formation Committee – Tony reported that he approached Joe Van Antwerp to fill our 12th Board Member. Joe is willing to serve and will attend our December meeting. He is a retired business man from Cheboygan with a background in engineering.
Projects Committee – Darrell requested board feedback about his proposed 2018 Program Plan for projects. After some discussion it was decided that the Projects Committee will research the proposed projects and then meet in early May to review, prioritize and narrow down options to present to the Board at our May meeting.
Business Meeting was adjourned at 7:01 pm.
Tony welcomed our guests Eli Baker from TOMWC, Steve Crusoe, Mike Supernault, Steve Reh, Terri Wild and Linda Sandvik.
Darrell Schwalm did a power point presentation about the importance of greenbelts that focused on how to help educate fellow lake front homeowners why it is important. He stressed how we can educate lake front home owners to rethink what a shoreline should look like. He presented several different examples of how to achieve an attractive landscape while still protecting our lakes from pollution. Included was also an introduction and review of the state wide Shoreland Stewards Program. Eli shared the signage available to those who take the Shoreland survey. He also shared the next step in the Shoreland program is to find Ambassadors on the lakes to assist in spreading the word.
